Hello! Hope you are having an awesome weekend! It is getting quite chilly here. We have had a week of rain, and it has been most welcomed! We still could use more after the dry summer we had! Well, first things first.....the count down.....2, count'em, 2 days until Brandon will be home for good! I just can't stand the wait! LOL We are getting things ready around here to add another person to the household again--quite happily, I might add! Ofcourse we lived at our other house still when Brandon left for the Air Force. Ofcourse he has been here to our new house, several times when he was in on leave, but hasn 't "lived" here actually. We have four bedrooms, so it is not a problem ofcourse. Brandon will basically take the Jack and Jill bedrooms with the bath in between. He's going to make one of the rooms his bedroom, and the other one a "common" living area for him and Blake to hang out in. They'll put a tv, computer, sofa, etc. in there. Blake's bedroom is down another hall. The little room (it doesn't have a name yet-hee hee) will become Kenny's office. It is a little smaller than the bedroom (that will be the common area) where his office is now. However, this room is closer to our bedroom anyway. This"little room" will hopefully become a nursery for grandbabies some day. lol It is a sweet little room with one wall being brick. I'll save this room, for another post though.
With the fall weather upon us now, it is starting to feel like it should this time of year. I am getting ready for all the little spooks to arrive on Halloween for their trick-or-treat candy. Here's a little pic of some goodies that are at my front porch. The "Maggie dog" isn't part of it as that is always there.

Until next, keep smiling, and stay cozy warm!

Counting Down The Days!
Well, it has been a long almost-four years since Brandon went into the Air Force. Gosh, I have missed him so! Luckily, he has been stationed in the US the whole time! In one week from tonight, Brandon will be home for good! Yippee! We are so ready for him to be back in T-Town, and he sure is ready! So, you'll see me counting down the days here for sure!
Well, Halloween is fast approaching. I have all my Halloween candy ready, as we will definitely have more trick-or-treaters in our new neighbor than we did where we just moved from! I am so looking forward to that. I bought this precious fancy Witchy Poo on my shopping spree with Lisa. Isn't she awesome!?! I just fell in love with her! She is so fun! Be sure to click on the image for a closeup to see her face in detail. In the picture below, you can see my cutsey little witch and pumpkin. I put her under one of my cloche to make a sweet little display. This table is so versatile. I found it on one of my jaunts when we were on vacation a few years ago. It has been all over my house (lol) but has found a home in my dining area for now. You never know where it will turn up next, or what kind of display it will befriend. Keep your eyes open for where you might spot it in the future! Don't you just love my mirror!?! My sweetie pie bought it for me for my birthday a few years ago. I saw it and fell in love with it. He went back later to get it for me. What a sweetie!!

Until next time, hug your sweetie, and I'll do the same!

Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho! It's back to work, I go! hee hee
Well, Fall Break has come to an end. Even with having to have surgery, it has been a great 2 weeks! Ofcourse the first week, I was very sore from surgery. My parents provided us with home cooked meals, and ate with us. That was nice! Kenny and Blake got a lot of jobs done around the house. Blake and his friend cleaned the garage out, and it looks sooooo good!
Maggie didn't understand why I didn't play with her like I ususally do. Kenny and I enjoyed our birthdays, and my parents brought dinner complete with cake and ice cream as well.

The second week, I felt much better! The soreness is pretty much gone now, just a twinge every now and then to the touch. I got some online shopping done, and then on Friday, my best friend and I went shopping.....ok, in my last post, I said I wouldn't shop til I drop this time, but yep, I did! hee hee But I was ok and held out quite well. She helped me lift things, as I still am not suppose to lift much. We shopped at Old Time Pottery, Hobby Lobby, Target, and T J Maxx. I got a lot of goodies for 50% off! I got some Christmas shopping done too! yay!
Then on Saturday, Kenny and I went shopping again. hee hee. We went to Target, T J Maxx, Linens & Things, Home Depot, and Pet Smart. We got some Christmas goodies for Maggie. We bought a really cool ball, a fuzzy-cuddly floppy dog, a squeaky dog, and a pull-toy. We also bought a ball to give to her now. She loved it but kept going over to the bag from PetSmart. She couldn't see in it, but it was like she knew it was hers. The squeaky dog was kind-of peeking out the top. She kept sitting and whining for it. Now, there were other bags from other stores, but she wanted the Pet Smart bag. She KNEW it was hers! So, guess what, I gave her the squeaky dog--we call it "dolly" and boy does she love dolly! She took it to bed with her Sponge Bob pillow last night. Soooo cute!!

Now tomorrow, I'll have 19 bright-eyed students raring to go (ok, maybe not raring--hee hee). I know they will be glad to be back. I will enjoy seeing them and hearing all about their adventures over Fall Break. They will be sure to have LOTS to tell--they always do! *wink*

Ok, next time I'll share some pics of the goodies I bought on my shopping sprees.
Until then, keep smiling.

This is such an all time occurrance, that I don't have many pictures of this. So I decided to peek in and take a quick snap while Kenny and Blake were jammin' in Blake's room. Very soon, Brandon will be a regular occurance with this once again. Yep, regular, not just every-so-often, because he will be out of the Air Force and back home for good on October 29!!!!! Yippee!!!!! It has been a very loooonnnnnngggggggg 4 years!! We are so excited! Brandon will be joining Raimah, the Christian rock band that Blake plays with. He will be playing bass with them. They are so excited about that. As for Blake he is still enjoying his job (that Brandon had before going in the A.F.) in the Radiology Dept. at our local hospital.

As for me, I want to thank all my wonderful family and friends who have been praying for me with my recent hernia surgery. It is really what got me through it (God gave me great peace about it all) because I was so terrified of surgery. My surgeon even asked if he could pray with me before he did the surgery. Now, how many doctors do that? That really was awesome!! I am healing well, and my doctor gave me a good report! I have had a great fall break, even though I had surgery right before break started. It was a blessing to have two weeks off without having to take time off from work! God is so good! My parents made sure we had plenty of home cooked meals, and Kenny and Blake were great at jobs around the house! I was really sore last week, but I am not sore now, except a little bit to the touch. Hey, I can deal with that. Oh, and my best friend, Lisa, called today, and we are going shopping tomorrow! Yippee! I have only been to church and to the store (to pick up the bare essentials) once. So, I am feeling much better and ready to SHOP but not til I drop, this time.

I want to wish my Bro-In-Law, Buddy, a very Happy Birthday! Hope your day was as special as you are!!

Until next time, hugs and blessing all around.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall

I do so love decorating with mirrors!
It's not because of a vain issue, hee hee, I just love the way you can make a display. If placed in a small room, you can give the effect of a much larger space. However, you want to make sure it is facing an area that you would want it to reflect. I just love what all you can do with them. I have one I use on my dresser with perfumes and such. I'll have to get a pic for you of that. My latest mirror acquisition is on the vanity in my guest bath(pictured above). I love the little bird atop this sweet little table mirror! Pictured below, is a wall with a few of my fav mirrors.

I got these sweet little hand mirrors at the Nashville Flea Market. With these little goodies, I added to two of my collections: mirrors and old spoons. I LOVE these. I got them for $5 each! The lady at the booth makes all kinds of wonderful things from spoons. Aside from the mirrors, I also made a purchase of several spoon necklaces for $5 each! *screams*
I LOVE the "Spoon Lady"!!
Below, you see the mirrors on the back and an upclose pic of the designs.

Now, the next time you pass a mirror in a store, take a quick glance at yourself *wink* and then think about how you can use it in a display in your home!

Until next time, keep smiling!

~HOME IS WHERE THE HEARTH IS~
This is a picture of our fireplace in our Family Room. The decor changes with the seasons. Our walls are a light caramel color, which is the perfect backdrop for this. Brilliant oranges, golds and reds tell us that Autumn has finally arrived.

This is a display of some goodies I bought for Thanksgiving decorating. I just love the Pilgrim man and woman and shaker boxes. But I really LOVE my white pumpkin with inscription, "We Gather With Thankful Hearts". We do have so much to be thankful for!

~I love my Country Kitchen~
This is my favorite piece! When Kenny and I first married, I was really getting into collecting antiques and junque. I wanted a pie safe. The kind I wanted was ultimately the one I got. Here's how it happened.....

I was teaching preschool, and our cook happened to overhear me talking about my love of antiques, and my desire to own a pie safe. Later that day, she approached me and said that she had an old pie safe that she would sell me for $125. OMG, I was ecstatic!

So that evening after work, we went to her home to collect my new goody--OMG--a pie safe. I asked my Dad to meet us there, because he was going to be refinishing it for us, as she told us it would need. When we arrived, she invited us in, and proceeded to tell us that it wasn't in the prettiest shape. My heart sank, not knowing what condition we would find it in after all.

As she opened her garage door, she revealed my new-found treasure. OMG, no it wasn't pretty, it had layer after layer of paint on it, with green being the top coat. I looked it over, as did Kenny and my Dad. It seemed to be in good shape but it was ugly--hee hee. However, I could see past that "ugly" and envision how I knew it could be. Kenny and my Dad did not quite have the same vision, asking me several times, "Are you sure this is what you want?" "YES!" is all I could get out. So we loaded it in the truck, and took it to my parents' home for my Dad to begin the work on it. While my Dad began to work, I began to search. I found that my pie safe is circa 1800's. I didn't even get a chance to call them for a daily update because my Mom or Dad would beat me to it to give me an update on the day's progression. When my Dad found it was oak underneath, you would have thought we struck oil! Yippee!

Ok, so that's my story about how my pie safe came to be. You can see it in the picture on the left. Or if you ever come for a visit, it will be Kenny who will show you the piece, like a proud daddy--hee hee. Now he can see before his eyes what I envisioned back in the garage that fateful pie safe day.
Here's a picture up close of the punched tin.

~Country Goodies~

High atop my pie safe is a very small part of my advertising tins collection. The Maine Corn tin was in a goody package from my penpal in Maine.

I just LOVE my rolling pins. My favorites are the ones with the red handles. However, I do love those green ones too. My little Peppy and Salty shakers always make me smile!

Welcome to my first posting on our blog, Our Back Porch!
I am so excited to start this. Here you can find the latest
happenings at the Wrinn Home, as well as all the latest
jaunts and treasures, and family life.
This isn't my first blog, but I like the layout better than
my other one.
-----So why "Our Back Porch" ?---
Our back porch is a special place.
I love to sit there in the mornings, sip my cup of coffee or cappuccino,
and look out at our big backyard. You can ususally find Maggie nearby
if I am out there, always eager to play a game of fetch.
I love to sit there in the evening with Kenny and rock in our
wonderful rocking chairs!
Come back soon and visit again.
I'll have lots to tell you, because we are always busy bees!
Hugs and Blessings,
Rebecca
