Getting Ready for the Red, White, and Blue

With a busy school year, Kenny finishing up classes and graduating, family in so many locations now, I haven't had a chance to do something like this in quite a while.  Since the boys have moved out, and have families of their own, it's just Kenny and me in this empty nest.  Our oldest is not too far away, so we get to see them often.  However, with my other son and his sweet little family further away, their work schedules, etc., we don't get to see them as often as I'd like.
Anyway, even though it might just be the two of us celebrating the 4th at our house, I decided to decorate anyway.  [I set a place for my oldest son and his girlfriend, in hopes that they get to be here!]
I LOVE mixing/matching my place settings.
 I just think it's FUN!
[And I love using vintage sheets for tablecloths!]
It's just a small, quaint little setting, but that's all the two of us [ but hopefully 4 of us, at least] need.  Our backdoor neighbors always put on quite a fireworks show, so we can see them from our screened-in porch.  Simple but sweet, I think.

Today, I'm linking to Rednesday.  Head over and check out all the red that's being shared!
Happy 4th of July everyone!
Stay safe and have lots of FUN!
Blessings,
Rebecca

Go To Your Corner!

Ok...I'd be happy to go sit in the corner...especially when it is this corner!  teehee  Yep, you spotted the mantle that I got for a whopping $0!!!  After getting a good coat of spray paint, it found a good home here in my little corner.

I have been trying to decide what I wanted to do in this area for a while.  It's a quiet place for reading a book, poring over decorating magazines, grading papers, listening to someone play the piano {since I don't},or just daydreaming.

A few other treasures got a makeover with the same ivory spray paint.

I think it's the perfect place to hold my sweet grandbaby and read books together.  She even has her own little chair that she loves to sit in!

Great vintage alarm clocks find a home atop a wonderful glass-topped clock table.  None of them work, but I think that could be a good thing...you know...time standing still...no place to be...just sitting here daydreaming!  Ahhhhh

There are so many possible backdrops in this room to "showcase" seasonal/holdiay decorations.

Happy Birthday, America...
and Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Today, I'm linking to:

Now, I think my corner is calling to me..."Come and sit a spell" it seems to say.  "Ok!" I reply.  "I think I'll do just that!"
Stay Safe and Enjoy, Everyone!

*Happy*Fourth*Of*July*

Do you have favorite memories of past 4th of July celebrations?
I know I do...

*the time it began to downpour right in the middle of our town's annual fireworks display and everyone went scrambling to get to a dry place... my grape snowcone falling, and losing my grandpa in the crowd*

*shooting bottle rockets and holding sparklers*

*Kenny, the boys and I laying on our trampoline looking up into the night sky watching beautiful bursts of colors from the fireworks*

*the time we watched them in our tent in the backyard*

*this year in the parking lot with Maggie looking for the "pretties"*
*drinking frozen margaritas*

*with Brandon and Sara*

*hubby and me*
*Blake spending the weekend with Carrie and Kennedy*

*fireworks over the lake at our condo*
*Maggie making mad dashes in and out of her doggy door to see the "pretties" in the sky*

*family cookouts with hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, sweet tea, watermelon, and homemade ice cream*
*dinner on the grounds at church after our God and Country Celebration*

Yes, there are many great memories of the 4th of July!

I LOVE to decorate with red, white, and blue for this celebration!

Flags flying in the breeze...a table set with blue and white dishes...on a red and white checked table cloth...white daisies bouquets, and flags in old crock jars...

But in the midst of our decorating, baking, celebrations, get-togethers, and fireworks, may we remember the reason we celebrate...the birthday of our great country that we are so fortunate to live in!  May we be reminded of those that are serving our country right now.  Those that are stationed in other countries, those on US soil, those in harm's way, those away from their families, and those fortunate enough to have their families near...may we be mindful of what they do for us each and every day.

May we remember the veterans that have served our country...and thank them when we see them!  I thank my son, Brandon, for serving four years in the Air Force.  And for my Daddy and brother-in-law that served in the Army.  May we remember those that didn't come home because they fought and died for us to be FREE...They paid the price with their lives because freedom is NOT free.

May we remember to be faithful in prayer for our nation and for our leaders...for we are nothing without GOD!  And our country and leaders need prayer more than ever!

I hope your day is filled with
* love and laughter*
*family, friends, and good food*
*flags flying, bursts of fireworks, and singing*
*thoughts of those that have and are serving*

God Bless America!

Back Porch Blessings and Happy 4th of July!
