Magazines*Magazines*And MORE Magazines

*A Collection of Magazines*

Are you like me?  Do you have a huge collection of decorating magazines?  Sheesh!  I have been collecting them since the early 1990's!  I finally just had to start weeding them out.  There were several favs of my from that decade that I just couldn't bare to part with!  While I did diminish my collection of mags, I still have many left.  Where do you keep your stash of decorating magazines?  I have several places where mine are kept. Even though most of them aren't  seen right off, they are always easy to access!  Whether I am enjoying a good thunderstorm on my back porch or cuddling up in my favorite chair by the fireplace, I always have magazines close at hand.  So here are my secret hide-a-ways and not-so-secret places where I keep my mags.....

I have a few magazines on my coffee table.

A small table beside a fireside chair is the perfect spot to
have magazines within reach for a "cold, cuddle-up-night-by-the-fireplace-read"!

Well, of course a "magazine" rack would be a good place to keep them!
*wink*

The back of my antique school desk hides some of my sweet reads!

Drawers of cabinets are great places for your stash!

I bet you have a bunch of magazines!
So, where do you keep all yours?

Blessings,
Rebecca

I'm Game If You Are!*and*A Lovely Blog Award!

I LOVE vintage game boards!
These are one of my favorite collections!

The multicolored boards add such fun to a room!  Board games have been enjoyed over many centuries.  The first recorded game board was a game called Senet which dates back as early as 3500 BC!  It wasn't until after 1839 when lithography came into use that multicolored game boards became available.  During the 20th century these games started to be known by everyone.  Many of these games are still alive and popular today, thanks to the internet.  However, I love these games as a form of art.  I love the way they liven up a wall with their cheerful colors!

So, what's your game?

Checkers, Backgammon, Parcheesi?
Perhaps Chinese Checkers?

Wow!  I just was awarded this Lovely Blog Award!

Craft Saturday*A Very Special Birthday*And a Give-Away!

You remember me showing you my craft room in earlier posts?  It was so neat and organized.  Well, It doesn't quite look that neat these days.  I have such good intentions of putting everything back in order as I finish a project.  However, lately it seems that I have several projects going at once.....never enough time to finish them.  Well, I'm caught up now so I began some more.  lol

First is a small project for a special lil lady.....my Lady Margaret Bleu {Maggie to us} is celebrating her 3rd Birthday today.  Now, they say that Labradors are basically considered puppies up until their third birthday.  I don't think Maggie knows that.  LOL  Maggie has always been an easy puppy....with potty training, teaching new tricks, friendly to everyone.  Of course as a tiny puppy, she went through her chewing stage, but she got over that fast and has never chewed our things up.  She hasn't even offered to.  She does like to "gut" her stuff toys, but that is to get them the way she wants them.  And then she loves them even more!  But her puppy characteristics have to do with playfulness.  She goes to bed with a toy or two or three and she wakes up ready to play fetch or tug.  She still thinks she is tiny and can fit in my lap like she did when she was small.  She has no clue how big she is now, and how much room she takes up when trying to sit in my lap.  But, if she still thinks she is a puppy, then that is just fine with me because I am in NO hurry for her to grow up.  And I still LOVE  holding her in my lap, even though she spills over a bit.  She's my little cuddle bug.  :)

So, this pretty lil' birthday girl deserves something pretty.  She may play fetch, but she's a "girly girl" too!  So my first project on this craft Saturday was for my special birthday girl.  While I was making this for her, she stayed right beside me looking at it.  I think it was because she saw that I was using her fuzzy pompom that use to be on her Princess pillow.  When I finished her hat, I tried to talk her into putting it on, however, she wasn't as cooperative as she was with the elf hat at Christmas.  She was too worried about that pompom.  LOL

And here is Miss Maggie getting all dolled up for her party.  {You notice that I went back later and added the number "3" to her party hat...for our 3 year old party girl, of course!}

Next, is a picture of some goodies that I am using in a small project.  This project is for my Vintage Valentine Swap partner again.  I hope she enjoys this little cutie.  Sorry, once again but you will have to wait to see the finished project.....can't spoil the surprise for Janelle!

And now for the Give-Away!

Not from me, but from the sweet De!

Annies are so special to me!  I loved my Annie as a child.  I still have a little one that I have shown you before.  Well, if you like Annies too, you will want to head on over to Bowls and Annies!  The very sweet De is having a give-away!  It is the most adorable Annie you have ever seen!  She also has a shop that has these awesome bowls(that I think her husband makes) and the awesomely sweet Annies that she makes!  She is one talented lady with a heart of gold!  Thanks De for this wonderful chance to win one of your precious Annies!!

Now, go by and enter.  RUN don't walk because it ends soon!

Hope you all have a crafty day and
give your furbabies a big hug!
Blessings,
Rebecca

Brrrrr! It's Cold Outside!

Brrrrr!
It's too cold to go out anywhere!  And since it is Saturday, I'm keeping busy inside the house.  Today is what we call around my house "Craft Saturday".  That means that Mom is busy in her craft room, more than likely up to her eyeballs in glue and glitter.

Today I was working on something special.  This is for my Vintage Valentine Swap partner, Janelle.  Janelle and I have a lot in common.  She's a teacher who is a chocoholic that crafts in her spare time too.  We also both like prim.  For our swap we must have at least one item that is vintage, hince the name Vintage Valentine Swap.  lol  We must also stay with the color scheme of red, pink, and white because after all, it IS for Valentine's!  I have found some sweet things for Janelle's box and already have something vintage for her too, so today I wanted to make something special just for her.  Yep, you got it!  It involves lots of glue and glitter.  Here's a sneak peek as to what I've been up to, but only a peek mind you.  I can't let Janelle see what I am sending her or it won't be a surprise, right?!  So this is just a little tease.  Hmmmmm.....What could it be?????
When I mail Janelle's box, and know that she has received it, then I will share some pics for you to see ALL the goodies I send her.

Craft Saturday Blessings,
Rebecca

*KIDNAPPED*

After several years of marriage, I decided to plan a little trip for our Valentine Wedding Anniversary.  I wanted this to be a surprise, so my secret plans began.  I made the decision to kidnap him from work.  With the help of a few family members and friends, my plans were then put into action.  That day, our then four-year-old and I attended our oldest son's school Valentine party.  When we finished, I dropped both boys off at Nanny's and Grandad's.  With luggage packed in the car, I headed toward my husband's work.  Everyone at his work, with the exception of him, was in on the whole secret.  They got him busy, with his back toward the door so I could tiptoe in behind him.  With a blindfold in hand, I quietly made my way toward him, and slipped it over his head.  He said, "Ok, what's up?"  I whispered, "You have to come with me.  You're being kidnapped."  I have to say he was a really good sport; better than I would have been, for sure!   So I led him blindfolded out the door and helped him into my car.  I began our little journey by driving  him all over town on backroads--now you have to remember that I live in a small town.  After a bit, I started toward our final destination.  When we got there, I stopped the car and asked him if he knew where we were.  He knew the area we were in but still didn't understand why.  I couldn't believe it!  I would have been so turned around.  I have a hard enough time with directions when I can see where I'm going.  LOL  I opened the car door, and we heard a very familiar sound.....waterfalls.  Now he knew for sure the EXACT SPOT we were at.  However, he still didn't understand why.....
Well, it was because the old mill had been recently renovated and was now a B & B!
A B & B for some R & R.....
Relaxation and Romance!!

So, this year on our 22nd Valentine Wedding Anniversary, we are going back!  Yippee!
There won't be a blindfold this time, but nonetheless, it will be a trip to remember!
So here are some pics of where we are heading this year on Valentine weekend!

This sweet little B & B is a little rustic, but has a lot of charm.
And it has all you need.....

southern hospitality, yummy food, antiques,

 a pretty view,

and a secluded room.
This is The Falls Room.....
named for the Falls because they are
RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR!

The Falls!

We are so excited!
This is SO us!

Until next time,
Hugs and Blessings,
Rebecca

Please be with my Mom as she is in the hospital once again.
We pray for your precious healing hand to touch her, and make her well.
Please be with her doctors that they will have the knowledge
on how to treat her so she can regain her strength and feel well again.

In the precious name of Jesus,
Amen.

LoVe Is In ThE AiR

I LOVE this time of year!  I exchange the Christmas decorations for Valentine ones!  It makes me sad when I have to pack up all my treasures from Christmas, but it helps the blues by decorating with the pink and red!  Plus, Valentine's Day is our wedding anniversary,
so this holiday is really special to me.
Here are some sweet Lovey Vignettes for your red and pink pleasure.
Enjoy!

This little tree was transformed from a Christmas to Valentine tree.
I love the tinsel, pink and red ornaments, and sweet lil glitter heart picks.

More sweet red and pink heart ornaments find a home here.

This is a sweet little rose box that I made.
It fits in just perfectly here on some vintage handkerchiefs.

I just love these cute Valentine mice!

Nothing says love more than cupid and cherubs.
I adore my little man with his chariot!

Cute little Valentine altered art.

Heart pillow that I received in a swap last year.

~Couples in love~
No wonder!  There's that sneaky little Cupid again!

Valentine Blessings,

The Bag Lady

I have lived in the same small town all my life.  This is where I met my hubby, which has lived here since he was 2 (except when going away to college).  This is where we chose to raise our family.  It's just a great little town, everyone basically knows everyone else!

Our town has had it's colorful characters, for sure, throughout my life time.  As far as most of them are concerned, I was never formally introduced to them.  As a child, I remember spotting them out and about in town.  My parents knew some of them by last name, as my Daddy was a mail carrier, and came across many people of our town.  However, some of them would be "gifted" a name by my sister and me.  We would choose their name by their characteristics.

First, there was "Pink Paulette".  I think her name really is Paulette, but we added the "Pink".  Now, I have seen this woman since she was a teenager, and I was a small child.  She always walked everywhere!  When we made our weekly trip to the Dairy Queen, she was usually there, always nodding a hello to you without muttering a word.  We called her "Pink Paulette" because she always wore pink...ALWAYS!  I can't ever recall to this day seeing her without sporting some kind of pink outfit...many times, a long skirt.

Then there was Mr. "Stick" Finney.  I'm not quite sure how he got that name but everyone called him that.  I just remember seeing him outside of Small World (a local boutique) when we would go uptown to shop.  I always wanted to ride the big spotted pony outside.  This pony, which cost a dime to ride, wasn't like the horsey/ponies outside of K-Mart now-a-days.  Perhaps it is just because it was a treat that this pony seemed so different.  Anyway, while I would ride the pony, either my Daddy or Papa would talk to this man.  He always look quite disheveled and dirty but it was said he was worth some cash!
As a child, I thought, "If I was rich, I sure wouldn't be dressed like that!"

Next was Mr. Beck.  Oh how I loved him!  We called him "The Candy Man".  He lived a couple of blocks from my home, and he would walk each day for exercise, I suppose.  He always had sticks of the old-fashioned peppermint stick candy--you know, the kind that melts in your mouth.  When I saw him out the window coming our way, I would ask my Mom if I could go outside and play in the front yard.  Soon, she caught on and knew just when Mr. Beck was coming, from my reaction.  She would tell me not to beg for a piece of candy from him.  "Oh, I won't momma!"  and I didn't...didn't have to...Mr. Beck always offered me a piece of that sweet treat.  One day to my surprise, he had something else to give me...it was the cutest little doggy.  You would wind him up and he would walk and bark.
That man and that doggy were soooo special to me!!

And then, there was "The Bag Lady".  I can remember seeing this little fragile-looking, tanned woman pushing an old shopping cart down the street.  Her matted silver hair hung way past her shoulders.  Sometimes the cart was empty...on her way to gather some "treasures', I suppose.  Other times, her cart was full.  As our car would pass her by, I always wondered what she had in that cart, and more so, where was she going with it?
I would watch out the car window for as long as I could see her.
It always made me so sad!

Yes, we have had some colorful characters indeed, in our quaint little town.  Most of them are a thing of the past, however, I do still see "Pink Paulette" from time to time...a much older tired-looking woman now, but still walking wherever she needs to go...
and still dressed in pink.

The little "Bag Lady" picture above is what sparked these memories that I just shared.  My best friend gave this to me.  It was one of the treasures she had put in my Christmas bag.
It really is a "bag" lady.  She holds your plastic bags inside her dress.  Isn't she precious?!!?  Thanks Lisa!

Do you have some colorful small town characters?
If you do, I'd love to hear all about them!
Blessings,
